Autumn – A time for change and a time for long-cooked meals

Autumn is usually thought of as a time for change. A time when leaves change colour and fall to the ground. Also this is the time when wind increases and affects our health through the lung energy causing dryness affecting our lips, our skin, causing itchiness, wrinkles, dry throat, cough and constipation. Therefore foods that create moisture are very important during this season and into the colder months.

  • tofu
  • soy milk
  • spinach
  • pears
  • apples
  • millet
  • persimmons
  • loquat
  • seaweed
  • mushrooms
  • almonds
  • pinenuts
  • peanuts
  • sesame seeds
  • milk
  • eggs
  • clams
  • crab
  • pork

Dairy is also good to create moisture and soups are always nurturing and good this time of year. Also when we cook foods for a longer period of time this generates more heat and creates more warming qualities to the food and our bodies.

Some recipes for this time of year:

leek and potato soup bean and turnip soup

What’s your favourite food at this time of year?
